Desert Monastery in Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi: a Monastery with a Breathtaking View

If you are planning a trip to Naples, Sorrento or Amalfi Coast in Italy, make sure to put on your list the Desert Monastery in Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi, because from its roof terrace you will enjoy a terrific 360-degree views over the two Gulfs of Campania: the Gulf of Naples with Mount Vesuvius and its Bay, and the Gulf of Salerno with Capri and its Farglioni Rocks, Ischia and Procida.

The view from the Desert Monastery is one of the most beautiful sights on the Sorrento peninsula,  and should not be missed!

The Desert Monastery in Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi takes its name from the Hill The Desert on which it was built by the Carmelite friars in the 17th century, and today it belongs to the Benedictine nuns of St Paul. It is located a few kilometres away from Sorrento.

To enjoy the breathtaking view I suggest you to visit the Belvedere roof terrace.

The opening hours of the Belvedere terrace are as follows:

from 1st April to 30th September from 10.00 to 12.00 and from 17.00 to 19.00

from October 1st to March 31st, from 10.00am to 12.00pm and from 3.00pm to 5.00pm (updated to December 2017)

As I said before, the Monastery is inhabited by the Benedictine nuns, very welcoming to all tourists and faithful. It is possible to stay overnight and buy handmade products made by nuns.

A pleasant walk along a tree-lined avenue will lead you to the terrace where you will enjoy the breathtaking view over the Two Gulfs. I find that this walk allows you to free your mind and prepare your soul for a tranquil day.
